San Carlos State Beach is a small beach in Monterey, located between Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf, near the Coast Guard station and breakwater. It's a very popular place for scuba diving, and many scuba classes are held there every weekend.  It's well suited to teaching new divers due to its shallow nature and clear sandy bottom out to 25 feet.   Ample marine life exists in the area to allow divers to experience the underwater coastal environment that California has to offer.   There is often plenty of parking for a daily fee, but arrive early to get a spot close to the grassy area and avoid hauling your gear long distances.
